It started with a murder …
Or rather, the story of a murder, on a fishing boat off the coast of Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
There was an investigation, but no charges were ever laid.
No body was ever found.
A version of the story would form the basis for the opening scene in my first novel, Dyed In The Green.
But a call to a friend who was close to the true story convinced me the alleged murder still resonated strongly with the missing man’s family.
And against the advice of a well-known author and writing instructor who reviewed my close-to-final manuscript and said the opening scene worked well, I changed things up.
Rather than dig up old wounds, I decided to let sleeping dogs lie.
John Donald Moores would not be a murderer … yet.
